Now Playing: Biorhythm Mix (29 Lines Mix)

o2abaandbmat zo

Lotsa crap happening means that it’s time for me to drop a new playlist! It has been in development for a while now, but I am proud to release the latest in the Biorhythm series: 29 Lines Mix!

Name Game: This one is real simple. We keep a spreadsheet of calls taken at my job, so one line for every birthday.

Temporality: Evening/Night. This isn’t a mainroom/bigroom mix, but it is a good party starter. A “I just got off work on a late shift Friday, am in bar clothes and am ready to start it up” list

Notable Tracks: Not realizing that this was going to be a short list, I totally just picked the best three and did them up in the Beta post, thus, I refer you back to it.

  1. The Cloudy Day – “Aurora (Original Mix)”
  2. The Cloudy Day – “Aurora (Abandoned Rainbow Mix)”
  3. Above & Beyond – “Alone Tonight”
  4. Inva – “Lonely Tonight”
  5. Juventa – “Stella Polare”
  6. Oxygen feat. Andrea Britton – “Am I On Your Mind (Flashtech Remix)”

Now Playing: Biorhythm Mix (Polar Vortex Mix Part 1)

vanessa-daou-140440-light-sweet-crude-act-1-hybrid eir aoi warpaint

So I went out out of order and posted the Polar Vortex Mix Part 2, so let’s take a moment and give you a taste of the prequel, the Polar Vortex Part 1.

Name Game: Simple enough, this was made during the first blast of insanely cold arctic air, the polar vortex. It’s fricking cold, with air temperatures that will freeze your drink, and wind chills that would crack a grown man’s spine.

Temporality: Morning. There’s just enough indie angst to offset the “I don’t wanna get up and go to work” feeling you may be in.

Notable Tracks (these were featured in earlier posts, because I went out of order):

Eir Aoi – “Sanbika”

This is an insert song from the anime Kill La Kill. It’s made by the same guys who brought us Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann so a) watch this, watch this now and b) it’s awesome, which means the music is awesome too. The main themes are cool, but the way this is used in episode 3 is just…well see for yourself. Awesomeness starts 24 seconds in and doesn’t end until the clip does.

Warpaint – “Love Is to Die” and “Keep It Healthy”:  I don’t know what it is about winter…yes I do, seasonal affection disorder, but seriously, these two songs were made for waking up at oh dark thirty on a winter morning, and driving to work before dawn has broken. The last minute or so of “Love Is to Die” is just heavenly, with the bass line doing all the work behind the scenes, while the opening riffs and rolling percussion off beats of “Keep It Healthy” just keep you going, floating on some kind of semi-etheral device (not a cloud, a device of some kind)

  1. Eir Aoi – “Sanbika”
  2. Warpaint – “Keep It Healthy”
  3. Warpaint – “Love Is to Die”
  4. Sky Spirit feat. Marga Sol – “Edge of the Horizon”
  5. Vanessa Daou – “Touble Comes”
  6. Vanessa Daou – “Love Is War”
  7. Eskadet – “Desire:
  8. Placid Larry – “Backwash”
  9. Hiroyuki Sawano  – “InuKa3L (犬Kあ3L)”
  10. York – “Farewell to the Moon (Alexander Popov Remix)”
  11. Dart Rayne & Yura Moonlight feat Katty Heath – “Stole the Sun (Allen & Envy Remix)”
  12. Kyau & Albert – “Do You Still Know? (Joseph Areas Dirty Rock Mix)”

Now Playing: Biorhythm Mix (Polar Vortex Mix Part 2)

So maybe I’m moronic for dropping a playlist in the middle of the actual broadcast of the Sochi Opening Ceremonies, but screw it, I’m gonna do it, and it’s the most recent mix too! Enjoy, it’s the Polar Vortex Mix Part 2!

Name Game: Simple enough, it’s fricking cold. again, due to another polar vortex, again, and the snow and ice will just not go the hell away! This is the follow up to the Polar Vortex Part 1 (der…)

Temporality: Anytime after 8 am would work nicely. I think it works best as a late morning, maybe mid-afternnon mix though. It’s just energetic enough to want to get you ready for the bar, but not so much that it would put you off temporally.

Notable Tracks:

Mat Zo feat. Rachel K. Collier – “Only for You”: This track is directly in your face with the electropunk synth line. Not since Daft Punk’s “Derezzed” have I heard a “mainstream” track that sounded so cyberpunk. It’s a welcomed sight. Rachel K. Collier murders the lyric track too.

  1. Elizabeth & the Catapult – “Happy Pop”
  2. ATB – “Contact”
  3. ATB – “Trace of Life”
  4. Terri Walker – “He Loves Me”
  5. Fred V & Grafix feat. Jate Westall – “Catch My Breath”
  6. Birdy – “Wings (Nu:Logic Remix)”
  7. Myon & Shane 54 feat. Late Night Alumni – “Under Your Cloud”
  8. Betoko vs. Gemma Hayes – “Wicked Game”
  9. Mat Zo feat. Rachel K. Collier – “Only for You”
  10. Drew Hill – “Studio 2”
  11. ATB – “Arms Wide Open”

Now Playing: Biorhythm Mix (Cold Fusion Mix)

A new year, and a new playlist, 2014 is already shaping up to be a good year musically. I have a few playlists from this winter I’m going to share with you, so I figure as sort of an apology for my absence, I’ll start you out this week with my latest playlist, and end it with the playlist that will supercede it in a week or so. So without further ado, enjoy!

Name Game: Simple enough, it’s fricking cold, and there’s all kinds of different stuff in this list from indie to soulful house, flowing right into some uplifting trance and straight breakz, with a little downbeat DnB thrown in for giggles.

Temporality: Morning/afternoon. This is a great driving to work mix, and an even better lunchtime mix. In fact, I’m listening to this mix as I complete this post.

Notable Tracks:

Betoko vs. Gemma Hayes – “Wicked Game”: I truly hated the Chris Isaak version (yes, the original) or this song, but every time I hear a cover, the cover is always better, and stacked against each other, the covers always seem to get better. This trance cut is probably the apex of all of the iterations I’ve heard. Gemma Hayes’ voice does it for me far more than Chris Isaak, and Betoko is just quality all the way around.

The Crystal Method – “Jupiter Shift” and “After Hours”: Along with The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method was one of the artists that I picked up on when I was kid that set me on the path to loving techno (I really hate calling it EDM) as much I do. In fact, these two tracks from their new self-titled album are the spiritual successor to Vegas. Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned was good, but it didn’t take me there. This is as if they picked up right where they left off with “Born Too Slow” (their only good track in the 2000s, if you ask me)

  1. Warpaint – “Love is to Die”
  2. Warpaint – “Keep It Healthy”
  3. Vanessa Daou – “Trouble Comes”
  4. Placid Larry – “Backwash”
  5. myk. – “Around”
  6. myk. – “For You”
  7. myk. – “Between the Lines”
  8. Vanessa Daou – “Love Is War”
  9. Roman Messer feat. Christina Novelli – “Frozen”
  10. Simon O’Shine – “Wuthering Heights”
  11. Betoko Vs. Gemma Hayes – “Wicked Game”
  12. York – “Farewell to the Moon (Alexander Popov Remix)”
  13. Dart Rayne & Yura Moonlight and Katty Heath – “Stole the Sun (Allen and Envy Remix)”
  14. Kyau and Albert – “Do You Still Know (Joseph Areas Dirty Rock Mix)”
  15. The Crystal Method – “Jupiter Shift”
  16. The Crystal Method feat. Afrobeta – “After Hours”
  17. Dirty Vegas – “Let the Night (Radio Edit)”
  18. Eskadet – “Desire”

Happy Listening!

Now Playing: Biorhythm Mix (Miranda’s Riverfront Mix mk3)

It’s always a fine day when I drop a new playlist, and an even finer one when it’s on a Friday, but the best of the best occurs when the Friday in question is a Riverfront Friday, and the playlist matches. That’s what I’ve got for you fine friends. Here, the debut of Miranda’s Riverfront Mix Mk3. Enjoy!

Name Game: Simple enough, the third in the series of Riverfront mixes going back to 2009. Music to go to Rockin’ on the River on the Cuyahoga Falls Riverfront.

Temporality: Now. Right now. Seriously, drop your shit, listen to this music. Also known as evening (6pm to be specific)

Notable Tracks: I refer you to the Galaxy Mix for De-phazz and Slazy, because they can’t get enough love. Besides, the trance is all top notch, and I’d be saying the same thing for all of the tracks: Great producers, insanse synths nad beautiful vocals by all the familiar suspects

  1. De-phazz – “Easy Goodbye”
  2. De-phazz – “Jazz Music”
  3. Flower – “Forget-me-not ~Wasurenagusa~”
  4. Sander van Doorn – “Neon (Club Mix)”
  5. Punkrockers feat. Carmen and Camille – “IDGAF (Crystal Rock Remix)”
  6. Slazy – “Hollywood (Club Mix)”
  7. Damon Paul feat. Patricia Banks – “The Sun Always Shines on TV (Bodybangers Club Mix)”
  8. Monte Cristo feat. Cozi – “Physical (Club Mix)”

Now Playing: Biorhythm Mix (Galaxy Mix)

Hello kiddies! In time for a gray and rainy #MusicMonday, I’ve found time to drop (after what seems to have been a lifetime) a CURRENT playlist! Holy crap, that’s right, it’s a new release! It got previously teased in Beta as the Backwards Compatibility mix, but a lot have changes have come and gone, also the reasoning for naming the mix was changed greatly too. So, without further ado, dropping this years first true summer mix, Biorhythm Mix (Galaxy Mix)

Name Game: I scored a Galaxy Note from a co-worker (yet another reason why I love working where I do…) so this was the first mix on it. Of course there was massive ROM flashing on it too (Padawan, CM10.1 and PacMan)

Temporality: Lunchtime, or thereabouts. De-phazz is the perfect morning/lunch kind of deal, but the rest of the list vibes very afternoon .

Notable Tracks:

Slazy – “Hollywood”

This track earwormed the hell out of me when I first heard because Slazy had the sheer audacity to drop the Magnum P.I theme song directly in the hook and made it work. Yeah, it’s bro-house, but you know what, it works dammit.

De-phazz – “Jazz Music”

I’ve been with De-phazz since I was exposed to them back in 2007 with their track “Jazz Music”. Wait a second (you all are thinking) isn’t that the same track that you heard then? Actually, no! In fact, in addition to the soulful house version I heard then and this one I’m pimping now, there is another acoustic version (that’s the one that comes up  if you youtube it, which is in fact the original). Of the three, this one is directly in the middle, and I’m thinking I’m liking this one just barely slightly more than the house version

Myon & Shane 54 feat. Natalie Peris – “Outshine (Radio Edit)”

Myon & Shane 54 feat. Aruna – “Lights (Radio Edit) AND (Cole Plante Radio Edit)”

Steve Kaetzel feat. Emma Lock – “I Love You”

Tiesto feat. Kirsty Hawkshaw – “Just Be (Radio Edit)”

The reason why all four of these gets a bump is two-fold. First, it’s summertime, and as far as modern EDM is concerned, you are looking at four of my favorite vocalists. Kirsty Hawkshaw is the first one I was ever familiar with thanks to her collaboration with Swayzak on “State of Grace” way back when. Aruna was put on my radar back in 2010 when I was cruising in a rental in Austin for my cousin’s wedding, listening to Above & Beyond’s Trance Around the World. Emma Lock I’ve been with since the heady days of the summer of 2008. Natalie Peris is the newbie on the list, but by God, she’s so mustard that she’s on the fast track to being a favore. Shit, the only person we’re missing here is Emma Hewitt, and I’m almost certain she’s putting up a track (if she hasn’t already) in the very near future.

The second reason is because Myon & Shane 54 are so hot that they are just blowing up my summers. In addition to the aforementioned Above & Beyond bringing the power on Group Therapy.

  1. Disclosure feat. Edward MacFarlane- “Defeated No More”
  2. Husky & Matt Meler Bru Fave & Ron E Jones – This Time [Husky RSR Soul Rub Edit]
  3. Frankie Knuckles & Director’s Cut – Let Yourself Go (feat. Sybil) [A Director’s Cut Master Dub]
  4. Carl Hanaghan feat. LaShonda – Mojito’s & Sunshine [Vocal Mix Edit]
  5. Myon & Shane 54 feat. Natalie Peris – “Outshine (Radio Edit)”
  6. Tamra Keenan – “Pontius Pilate (Lence & Pluton Remix)”
  7. Myon & Shane 54 feat. Aruna – “Lights (Cole Plante Radio Edit)”
  8. Maor Levi feat. Ashley Tomberlin – “Chasing Love (Original Edit)”
  9. Krewella – “Alive”
  10. AWD – “In Time (Radio Edit)”
  11. Tiesto feat. Kirsty Hawkshaw – “Just Be (Radio Edit)”
  12. Dart Rayne & Yura Moonlight feat. Sarah Lynn – “Silhouette (Radio Edit)”
  13. Two & One feat. Jess Morgan – “Reasons Later (Radio Edit)”
  14. Myon & Shane 54 feat. Aruna – “Lights (Radio Edit)”
  15. Store N Forward feat. Hannah Ray – “Hero (Radio Edit)”
  16. Steve Kaetzel feat. Emma Lock – “I Love You”
  17. 5 Reasons feat. Patrick Baker – “Night Drive in Moscow (Satin Jackets Remix)”
  18. Dislcosure feat. London Grammar – “Help Me Lose My Mind”

Happy Listening!

Now Playing: Biorhythm Mix (Rooted Mix)

Today is a fine Monday morning, and it’s the beginning of June in NE Ohio which means three things: temps in the 70s and 80s, going to the Riverfront (you’ll find out about that on Friday, hint hint), and it’s time for me to drop the newest playlist in the Biorhythm series! Big ups to Kay Rush for bringing some chill/soulful house power! This list is so fresh that Spotify doesn’t have about a third of the tracks in question and that when I wrote up the Beta post for this mix, I didn’t have a name for it. Well I do now, keep reading for the details…

Name Game: So I really wanted Jelly Bean on my phone and I found out that my carrier was very likely not going to flash it OTA to my particular phone. So I said screw that, and screw them, and with help from my co-workers, successfully rooted my phone and flashed Cyanogenmod 10 onto it for flavorful Jelly Bean goodness. Once I successfully rooted it, I put this playlist into effect

Temporality: At first, this was going to be a morning mix, but it is most definitely an afternoon mix. It would also work as an evening mix if timed right. The later tracks are a good starter for a night mix, which is probably what’s going to happen.

Notable Tracks:

Side note, refer to my Beta post for the notables there, since those have not changed, I’m just adding the song below for flavor

Zedd feat. Foxes – “Clarity”

This track from Zedd I almost glossed over because it is admittedly pretty repetitive, even though Zedd does quality work. I have a pretty good collection of his non-pop song remixes. What brought me back to it? Foxes. I’ve never heard of her before, and yes, she sounds like a standard pop/vocal trance vocalist, but I swear the way she hits the notes on the phrase “our love” will make you either melt, or want to take some hits ASAP.

  1. Bonobo feat. Szjerdene – “Towers”
  2. Vampire Weekend – “Don’t Lie”
  3. Caro Emerald – “Tell Me How Long”
  4. Chihara Minori- “Kono Sekai wa Bokura wo Matteita”
  5. Alton Miller feat. Thato – “Waiting for You (Franco de Mulero & The Soul Creative Itbitaly Remix)”
  6. Venger Collective – “I Want to Live (Dolls Comber Vocal Edit)”
  7. Daft Punk – “Contact”
  8. Skaei – “Tonight (Extended Mix)”
  9. DF&S vs. Ceresia & Ron Carroll – “Bang Band (Explode)(Voodoo & Serano Extended Mix)”
  10. Zedd feat. Foxes – “Clarity”
  11. Rene Ablaze & Alexander Xendov feat. Sharon Fehlberg – “Cast Your Spell (Clokx Edit)”
  12. Wiply – “All I Gave to You”
  13. Wanklemut & Emma Louise – “My Head Is a Jungle (Gui Boratto Remix)”

Happy Listening!
