For part 17 of our 39 part run up to the start of the Eurovision Song Contest, we start in on the second round of the semi-finals. We take a trip to Valletta to see if Firelight has what it takes to win it all for Malta.
Song: “Coming Home”
Analysis: Normally, I spring for more electronic sounds, but this is about as straight folksy as I get, and damn they do it well. Then again, this is the same country that brought us that lovely story about Jeremy (working in IT…). The lead singer dude needs to sing more and perform less, stop shouting and for God’s sake, don’t overshout his backing vocals, because they’re the only thing making this guy sound credible.
Verdict: I think that Firelight gets out of the semis, but it may be close. It completely depends on if they take the performance. If they can do as well as they did above, then they’ll be fine. Do they win? Probably not, unless deals were made in advance. I think one sure fire sign would be if Denmark cosigns them. If so, prepare for some stuff.
