Backtrax: Biorhythm Mix (AM/PM Under-Grad Transitional Beta) Summer 2008

Welcome (officially!) to (astronomical) summer! This is the best time of the year to be a slightly OCD EDM (really any kind of) music lover because this is when all the hot shit drops. You don’t believe me? Listen to any playlist I publish through say the end of September and see. In the meantime, here’s the first summer mix from 2008, right when I was graduating. Without further ado: the AM/PM Under-Grad Transitional Beta!

Name Game: Okay, it’s clunky as hell, but this is the first playlist to use an actual life event in the title AND the first one to attempt to transition from one time of the day to another. In this case, the life event would me getting ready to graduate from college, so AM (the first half of the playlist, which at one time was called the Mimosa Mix)/PM (the last half of the playlist, heavily featured in the corresponding Bar Starz Mix…you’ll see that later on [maybe this week] this summer)

Temporality: As the name implies, morning/evening. It’s not an all day mix because the night half is basically for getting you to the bar, not good for post-last call really anything. Specifically, it’s a later afternoon/evening mix

Notable Tracks:

The Wideboys feat. Clare Evers – Bomb the Secret (Moto Blanco Mix)

Dave Spoon feat. Lisa Maffia – Bad Girl (At Night) (Moto Blanco Vocal Remix)

Charlean Dance – Mr DJ (Moto Blanco Club Mix)

Identity feat. Alison Limerick – This Girl (Moto Blanco Club Mix)

Afterlife – Never Before (Bobby Blanco & Miki Moto Mix)

Between 2007 and 2010 Danny Harrison, a.k.a. Bobby Blanco, and Arthur Smith, a.k.a. Miki Moto, were my damn near exclusive providers of four o the floor, straight club vocal house, even if it were jacked pop songs remixed. As I stated in a previous Backtrax, I hate most modern pop songs because it’s unlistenable. However Moto Blanco does it, they’ve remixed people I hate and made me like a track or two (see Jennifer Lopez’s “Hold It Don’t Drop It”), or mixed someone I was already with and made it freaking better (see Mary J. Blige’s “Just Fine”). These five tracks I feel are essentially the epitome of Moto Blanco’s success (though “Hold It Don’t Drop It” and Erika Jayne’s “Stars” should also be included on this list. Again, Bar Starz will explain everything in detail)

Tracklist:

  1. Hird – “I Love You My Hope”
  2. Lava – “Feel The Rhythm”
  3. Jazzin’ Park –  “Long Time Ago”
  4. Daishi Dance – “Moon Garden”
  5. Hint – “Mutes And Drops”
  6. Samantha James – “Right Now”
  7. Edison Gem – “Lullaby”
  8. D feat. Jason – “Opportunity”
  9. Sirusho – “Qele Qele”
  10. The Wideboys feat. Clare Evers – “Bomb the Secret (Intention) (Moto Blanco Mix)”
  11. Dave Spoon feat. Lisa Maffia – “Bad Girl (At Night) (Moto Blanco Vocal Remix)”
  12. Charlean Dance – “Mr DJ (Moto Blanco Club Mix)”
  13. DJ Circle – “Sundance (Central Avenue is Stripped Back Dub Mix)”
