Beta: Summer 2013 (Backwards Compatibility Mix)

We have another Beta in the mix, and unlike the last time, I think we have a provisional title already: the Backwards Compatibility mix. It could turn out to be Miranda’s Riverfront Mix mk 3 if the weather turns up, and I start breaking Miranda out more.  The music releases are starting to step up for the summer, and my gang of usual suspects is starting to produce in force. Myon & Shane 54 is looking to represent hard in this playlist, courtesy of their riding shotgun on In Search of Sunrise 11: Las Vegas with Richard Durand. Two familiar artists from the last year of summer lists, Netsky and Krewella, are back with their newest joints. I want to get more tracks on this so I can pare down, but there are some real winners here already. Here’s a small taste:

Disclosure feat. Edward MacFarlane – “Defeated No More”

Disclosure first popped up on my radar this time last year when brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence dropped “Boiling” with the sultry vocals of Sinead Harnett. At the time, I thought that they were a one off. Turns out, they were just prepping for their debut album “Settle”. “Defeated No More” is the 6th track on the album, and provides that upscale club house feel to your evening.

Myon & Shane 54 feat. Natalie Peris – “Outshine (Myon & Shane 54 In Search of Sunrise Mix)”

Ever since my trip to Austin for my cousin’s wedding in 2010, I’ve had a bit of a link with Anjunabeats records since the soundtrack to all of my crazy late night partying there came courtesy of Above & Beyond’s Trance Around the World. That’s how I got linked up with two, among many, artists that are all over my playlists: Tritonal, and Myon & Shane 54. In addition to another track they have on this list (“Lights” featuring the absolutely GORGEOUS vocals from Aruna, one of the few vocalists I keep tabs on) Myon & Shane 54 has teamed with Natalie Peris to produce this absolute throwback to 2007 vocal house/prog trance. It takes me back to the heady days of the summer of 2007 where everything was just beautiful, an the clubbing was hot.  I’ve never heard of Natalie Peris, but if this is her breakout, I will look forward to hearing her on another track (Above & Beyond, Tritonal or Kaskade tracks would be awesome!)

George Acosta feat. Shakeh – “These Dreams (Richard Durand In Search of Sunrise Mix)”

Just when I think the names I “Grew up on” in the scene have gone away, they come back in big ways. Sure Tiesto and Oakenfold were never gone (on the contrary, in fact), but I had kind of left them alone for a while. George Acosta was a combination of both me moving away, an dnot being able to find his good stuff when I bothered to look. Acosta’s newest offering via a Richard Durand mix has me thinking, “what in the hell can this guy possibly do next?” I can’t decide if he’s gone away from his house upbringing and switched to trance, if he’s taken house to the next level, or if he’s straddling that prog house and trance divide and just making it uncanny for everyone. I don’t know, and I don’t care, this track is awesome.

As I construct this list more, there will be updates, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I had this ready to go in another week or two. Now if only Kaskade would drop his sooner…

Happy Listening!
