Backtrax: Eurovision Song Contest 2010

Normally, Backtrax would be a full playlist, but since it’s Eurovision week, I’m taking a special liberty with this post since 2010 was a hella weird year. Why? Well..

  1. ESC 2010 SUCKED. Horribly. It was completely unnoteworthy. I only remember two things about that dreck: Dima Bilan won it for Russia in Oslo with a shitty song, and that the song to pick was pretty damned obvious, which brings us to…
  2. The picks were obvious. It took me one playthough of all the songs to know that the number one pick was Lena’s “Satellite” and the number two pick was maNga’s “We Could Be the Same”. Why? Lena was just that good, and I was still in love with Turkey’s rock bands after hearing Mor ve Otesi’s “Deki” in 2008, making maNga a natural choice. When they came through, I was more surprised that I as just a “stupid American” was able to pick the winners so quickly.
  3. Lastly, the picks were NOT included on a playlist PRIOR to the contest. The reason for this is simple: I didn’t have the means to play them on anything other than my computer. No (working) mp3 player, and since I didn’t have a car, or a CD player (cause really?). It wasn’t until just before the Holla At Ya BOI mix dropped that I had the means. Of course they both made an appearance as you’ll see in June/July.

So without further ado…

Lena – “Satellite”

maNga – “We Could Be the Same”
